An attractive quote is only useful when you know who will issue the coverage and who is handling the application. A comparison website, lead publisher, agency, and insurer can play different roles. Identify each one before sending sensitive information or making a payment.

Instant Insurance Quotes is an information and referral publisher, not a licensed insurance agency. A partner application is a separate process. Use this checklist to verify the destination and understand what a quote does, and does not, establish.

Record the legal names

Ask for the insurer’s legal name, the agency or producer’s name if applicable, and the product being quoted. A brand logo or comparison-site name may not identify the company that owes benefits under a policy. Save the proposal and contact information so you can trace the transaction later.

Use the state regulator’s lookup

Start with your state insurance department using the NAIC directory. Follow its links to licensing and consumer assistance resources. Check the company and the individual or agency involved, where the state offers those searches. If names are similar or a record is unclear, contact the department rather than guessing.

Check the product description

Confirm that the product is the insurance you intend to buy. A discount program, service contract, or limited-benefit product may not provide the same protection as a comprehensive insurance policy. Ask for the policy form, exclusions, and benefit limits before relying on a headline or sales summary.

Keep sensitive information in the proper channel

Confirm the website address and the provider’s secure application process before uploading records or identification. Do not send Social Security numbers, payment details, medical records, or government identification through a general contact form. Ask why particular information is required and review the destination’s privacy and contact-consent terms.

Verify coverage after purchase

A payment receipt or online quote alone may not establish that the requested policy is in force. Obtain the declarations or evidence of coverage, effective date, insurer, and policy number through the provider. Review them for errors and confirm any lender or client requirements before cancelling earlier coverage.

Questions readers ask

Does a familiar logo prove a site is authorized?

No. Verify the domain, legal business identity, and licensing where relevant. Contact the business through an independently verified route if something is unclear.

Who handles a complaint about an issued policy?

Start with the insurer or agency involved and use your state insurance department’s consumer assistance process when needed. A referral publisher cannot decide coverage.
