Deductible break-even calculator
Find out how many claim-free years a higher deductible needs to pay for itself, and whether you could afford it after a claim.
Compare two deductibles
Use two quotes that are identical except for the deductible. Enter annual premiums (double a six-month premium).
This tool calculates in your browser. Nothing you enter is sent to this website or to an insurance partner, and it disappears when you reload the page.
How it works
Break-even years = (higher deductible − lower deductible) ÷ annual premium saving. If you add how often you expect to claim, the tool estimates the average yearly result: annual saving − (extra deductible ÷ years between claims). It also checks the higher deductible against the cash you could pay immediately.
Arizona DIFI suggests asking your agent whether a deductible change will save you money and notes that raising a deductible can significantly reduce premiums; this tool puts numbers to that conversation.
Limits of this tool
It does not predict claims, renewal increases or inflation, and it assumes one deductible per claim. Percentage deductibles (for example a 1% wind/hail deductible) must be converted to dollars: 1% of a $400,000 dwelling limit is $4,000.
